GREELEY, Colo. – Junior Miriam Barcalova leads the field as The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's golf team sits in second place after the first two rounds of the Bear Brawl, hosted by Northern Colorado (UNC), on Monday at Greeley Country Club.
 
The Vaqueros carded the best team score of the second round at 6-over par to move into second place at the conclusion of day one. After two rounds, UTRGV sits in second with a score of 587, trailing only St. Thomas (580) while leading UNC (592), CSU Bakersfield (611), Montana (621), and Southern Illinois (634).
 
Barcalova leads the way for the Vaqueros after shooting 2-under par for the day to post a two-round total of 140. She holds a one-stroke lead over St. Thomas' Kathryn VanArragon entering Tuesday's final round.
 
Senior Natalia Rodriguez joins Barcalova inside the top 10 after carding a 73 in the first round and a 74 in the second round for a two-round total of 147, to end the day in eighth place.
 
Freshman Avery Glanzer and junior Zoe Hobbs both ended the day tied for 12^th, carding the same score in the first and second round of 77 and 73, respectively. The duo finished the day with a two-round score of 150.
 
The fifth member of the UTRGV squad, freshman Kanyanat Kamphoo posted a two-round total of 158 to finish the day tied for 24^th. Meanwhile, senior Preston Saiz, playing as an individual, turned in a two-round total of 159 which puts her in 28^th after day one.
 
The Vaqueros will look to erase their seven-stroke deficit to St. Thomas in Tuesday's third and final round of the Bear Brawl.
