Biography

Will be expected to provide leadership this season, both on and off the court... Has a combined 26 wins as a Lady Bronc... Tied her career high for combined singles and doubles wins with nine in 1998-99... Also a strong student off the court, being named to the UTPA Bronc Pride 3.0 club during the fall of 1999 and was a member of the Athletic Directors Honor for the 1998-99 academic year. 

1998-99 (Junior):
Tied for the team lead with five singles wins and led the team with four doubles victories... Played primarily at number six singles, where she posted a 4-6 record... Had an early season three match win streak, including wins over players from New Orleans and Sam Houston State... Helped the Lady Broncs to a pair of wins over Southern Louisiana with two 6-0, 6-0, singles wins over Nicole Williams at number six (3/17)... Picked up a 6-2, 6-1, win over Crystal Martin of Sam Houston State in a match that was not completed (2/27)... Rolled past Janet Fugiel of New Orleans, 6-0, 6-0 (3/15)... Played strong but fell to Danielle Blanco of McNeese State, 8-6 (4-/1)... Teamed with Gladys Fernandez to post a 4-5 doubles mark... The pair came up big against Betina Crooks and Carla Salazar of McNeese State, winning an 8-5 decision (4-1)... Followed that up with an 8-3 win over Sandra Dugue and Laura McCarty of UT-San Antonio (4/10).

1997-98 (Sophomore):
Had a 4-5 record in singles in her second year with the team, the third highest singles win total on the squad... Played primarily at number six, where she posted a 4-4 mark... Finished the season strong, winning four of her last five matches... Had a 2-1 record in three set matches... Was strong against Sun Belt Conference competition, posting a 4-1 record... Won two of three matches at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament (4/16-17)... Started off the season with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, win over Melissa Perez of McNeese State (10/3)... Was also strong in doubles, posting a 5-7 record at number three doubles with Gladys Fernandez... The pair won two of three matches against Sun Belt competition. 

1996-97 (Freshman): 
Had a strong freshman campaign, winning six singles matches... Won her first collegiate singles match, 6-2, 6-1, over Katie Kautson of UT-Arlington (10/4)... Finished the season strong, winning two of her last three matches... Had a 1-1 record in three-set matches... Showed her mental toughness, defeating Amy Bohling of Southern Louisiana, 7-5, 6-4 (3/7)... Came from behind to defeat Melissa Simpson of Stephen F. Austin, 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (2/22)... Won two matches in doubles as well. 

Personal:
Born on December 20, 1977 in Vandenburg, Calif... Parents are Mary Anne and Jeffrey Getchell... Has one brother, Sean... Her father works UTPA in the human resources department... Was a USTA All-American at Edinburg High School, playing for Head Coach David Cross... She also received the president's award... Majoring in Psychology at UTPA.
