Outdoor - Chavez finished with runner-up honors in the 2,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 8:21.26 at the Angela Proctor Classic... notched a 10th-place finish at the Whataburger/UTSA Relays with a time of 11:40.88 in the 3,000 meters... finished 20th overall with a mark of 5:19.30 in the 1,500-meter race at the Rice Twilight...
Classroom - Chavez was selected as a United State Academy Achievement All-American Scholar for the first time in her career.
2003
Cross Country - Chavez recorded her best finish of the cross country season at the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Splash with a time of 19:55.00 during the three-mile race... placed 37th overall at the National Independent Cross Country Championships... Outdoor - The UTPA freshman had her top finish of the out door season at the Angela Proctor Classic with a time of 2:23.30 in the 800-meter race en route to earning fourth-place honors... recorded a sixth-place finish in the 1,500-meter race with a time of 5:01.51 at the Javelina Relays... notched her best time in the 1,500-meter race at the UTSA/Whataburger Relays with a time of 4:57.96 en route to earning 12th-place honors... Classroom - Chavez earned Bronc Pride 3.0 Club honors during the fall semester.
High School
Chavez was named Most Valuable Player for the track and field program in all four years that she participated... named top runner in the Rio Grande Valley in the 800-meter dash as a sophomore... competed in the regional meet on four occasions in cross country and three times in track and field... earned letters in cross country, track and field and basketball... earned Academic All-State honors in both track and field and basketball... ranked 21st in her class upon graduation.

Chavez is the daughter of Oscar and Delilah Gonzalez... has two brothers - Adolfo and Mark - and four sisters - Nytashah, Andrea, Lynda and Geenah... was born on Oct. 31, 1983... majoring in pre-pharmacy.
