Outdoor - Keating started off the 2005 track and field season with a first-place finish at the Border Olympics in the 1500 meters, crossing the finish line with a time of 3:51.61 and recording the second-fastest time in program history... placed second at the Rice Bayou Classic in the 5000 meters, finishing the race in 14:09.06, which broke his own program record of 14:12.47... recorded a second-place finish in the 1500 meters at the Houston Invitational with a time of 3:55.46... ran the third-fastest 10,000 meters race in program history at the Texas Invitational with a time of 29:51.57.
2003
Outdoor - Keating became the first UTPA male track and field performer to qualify for the NCAA Division I National Championships and came away with a pair All-American honors with in both the 5000 meter and 10,000 meters... finished the 10,000 meter race in 28:55.74, which was the second fastest time in program history... became the first UTPA athlete to earn All-American honors in two sports in the same season as he was an All-America during the cross country season... was named the UTPA Male Student-Athlete of the Year award winner... finished second at the NCAA Division I Midwest Regional Championships in the 5000 meter with a time of 14:13.80... broke the program[apos]s all-time record in the 10,000 meter at the Stanford Invitational in the first time that he ever competed in that event... won six individual crowns in two separate events... claimed the title in both the 1500 meter (3:54.81) and 3000 meter (8:21.12) championships at the UTSA/Whataburger Relays... broke the program record in the 1500 meter race at the Drake Relays with a time of 3:49.69... won the 1500 meter at the Texas Relays with a time of 14:22.27, which was the third fastest time in program history... claimed the individual championship at the UTPA Open in the 5000 meter with a mark of 14:33.76... was third at the Javelina Relays in the 3000 meter with a time of 8:16.82... Indoor - Keating broke the program record during the 2003 indoor track and field season in both the 3000 meter and 5000 meters... captured the program record in the 3000 meter with a mark of 8:16.82 at the Houston Indoor Invitational en route to finishing runner-up in the race... claimed the record in the 5000 meter with a time of 14:26.05 at the Alex Wilson Invitational as he finished ninth overall... won the Houston Indoor Classic in the 3000 meter with a time of 8:32.79, which was the fifth fastest time in program history... was second at the Houston Indoor Opener with a time of 8:40.05 in the 3000 meter... Cross Country - Keating was named the Independent Runner of the Year for second consecutive season, winning the Independent Championship for the second straight season... finished the race with a time of 25:12 to claim the crown... garnered All-American honors by finishing sixth at the NCAA Division I National Championships with a time of 29:30.40 during the 10K race... was third at the NCAA Division I Midwest Regional Championships, recording a time of 30:13 in the 10K... won both the Chili Pepper 10K Invitational with a time of 29:25.88, which set a program record in the 10,000 meters... claimed the Texas A&M - Corpus Christi Splash with a time of 24:27 during the five-mile race... was named Independent Runner of the Week for his efforts... finished ninth in the Lobo Invitational with a time of 25:11.
2002
Cross Country - Keating picked up his first All-American crown by placing 25th at the NCAA Division I National Championships... captured the Independent Runner of the Year award for the first time in his career... captured individual championships at the UTSA/Whataburger Invitational and Independent Championships... was among the top four in every meet he participated in prior to the national championships.
High School - Keating was one of the best runners to come out of the Rio Grande Valley, capturing the Texas 5A state championships in the 3200M with a time of 9:10.72... won the district and regional championships in that event during his senior season... finished sixth at the Foot Locker South Regional with a time of 15:13.00... collected a 25th-place finishing at the Foot Locker Cross Country National Championships... earned fourth place honors as a senior at the state championships and was runner-up at both the district and regional championships.
Off the Track - Keating was born on Jan. 13, 1982... majoring in chemistry.
