What is Athletic Training?
Athletic Trainers are highly qualified, healthcare professionals that are multi-tasked. Athletic Training encompasses the prevention, examination, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of emergency, acute, or chronic injuries and medical conditions as defined by NATA.

Internship Overview
Students have the opportunity to obtain clinical skills in NCAA Division 1 athletics with multiple sports and preceptors with different backgrounds. Each semester students will assist UTRGV certified athletic trainers with daily duties and responsibilities.

Application Requirements
• 2.75 GPA
• Current CPR Certification
• Resume
• Cover Letter

Licensed Athletic Trainer vs. Certified Athletic Trainer
LAT
• Graduate with a Bachelors Degree: UTRGV → Kinesiology with a Concentration in Athletic Training
• Obtain 1,800 within 5 semesters (Fall/Spring)
• Typically work in high school settings
• Can only work in the state of Texas

ATC
•Attend a CAATE accredited Athletic Training Master’s Program
• Sit for National Certification (BOC)
• ATCs typically hired at the collegiate, professional, and other clinical settings
