Nick Bennett joined the Broncs as an assistant coach starting with the 2010-11 season.
Prior to coming to UTPA, Bennett spent three seasons at Florida Gulf Coast University, where he served as a recruiter, floor coach, and oversaw the academic progress of the team.
Bennett played at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP), where he helped guide the Pointers to back-to-back Division III NCAA National Championships in 2004 and 2005. In 2004, he was named Final Four MVP after scoring 30 points in the national championship game. In 2005, Bennett received First Team All-American accolades from D3hoops.com. During the 2003-04 season, Bennett set a single-season school record with 83 three-pointers and currently ranks third in all-time scoring with 1,646 points.
After graduating in 2005 with a degree in Broad-Field Social Science, Bennett served for one year as a graduate assistant coach for the Pointers. During the 2006-07 season, Bennett was the Director of Basketball Technology for the Marquette University basketball program.
Bennett is part of a renowned coaching family as his father, Jack Bennett, was head coach at UWSP. His uncle, Dick Bennett, was the head basketball coach at University of Wisconsin-Madison and Washington State University. His cousin, Tony Bennett, was also the head coach at WSU, and currently leads the basketball program at the University of Virginia.
Bennett is a native of Stevens Point and now resides in Edinburg.
