Osvaldo “Wally” Gonzalez began joined the Broncs as a volunteer assistant coach prior to the 2011-12 academic year. A 2011 graduate of UTPA with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Gonzalez works with distance and middle-distance runners.
Prior to joining the coaching staff, Gonzalez competed for the Broncs for four years. He was part of the Distance Medley Relay team that won the Broncs’ third-straight Great West Conference Indoor Championship in 2011 and was a three-time conference champion in the 800-meter run, winning it once each during the indoor and outdoor seasons in the Great West Conference and once during the outdoor season in the Ohio Valley Conference. Gonzalez ran a personal best of 1:51.06 at the 2009 NCAA Division I Midwest Regional.
A native of the Rio Grande Valley, Gonzalez is a 2006 graduate of Edinburg North High School.
