Mohinta spent the 2006 season with the University of New Orleans men's tennis program, but did not compete due to the season being suspended by the devasation of Hurricane Katrina.

During his prep career, Mohinta was ranked in the top-20 in India and listed in the top-600 in the world according to the International Tennis Federation... was the second-ranked player in the State of West Bengal... selected as the Sportman of the Year on three occasions (2001, 2002 and 2004) at Bodhicarya Senior Secondary School... represented the Bengal State Team at the All-India Inter-State Tennis Championships during the 2004 campaign at the Under-18 Level.
