Bruce Overton joined the Broncs as an assistant coach in August 2012.
A 6-8 forward, Overton played his prep basketball at the United States Air Force Academy following a congressional appointment. He then played his freshman season at Brown University before transferring to Drake and playing for the Bulldogs from 1993 through 1996, averaging 4.2 points and 3.1 rebounds in 74 games (26 starts). Broncs head coach Denny Downing was the recruiting coordinator at Drake when Overton was a senior.
Overton graduated from Drake with a bachelor’s degree in international business and finance.
Overton worked extensively in the private sector in Las Vegas, Nevada, from 1996 through 2007. He was a branch manager at a consumer loan and finance company, an account executive at two mortgage companies, a production manager at a lending business, and a senior account executive at Merrill Lynch. While in Las Vegas, Overton gained his first coaching experience, serving as a head coach in the Brinley Schools Basketball League, where he coached seventh and eighth grade girls and boys basketball teams.
He moved to his hometown of Indianola, Iowa, in 2008, to work as a senior mortgage consultant and continue his coaching career. Overton immediately became an assistant coach of the varsity girls basketball team and the head coach of the junior varsity girls basketball team at his alma mater, Indianola High School. He has also spent the last three summers as the director of the Indianola girls basketball camp.
