Micah Lopez joined UTRGV as a graduate student coach – defense on July 28, 2025.
Lopez comes to UTRGV from Texas State, where he served as a student assistant cornerbacks coach from March 2024 through May 2025. His responsibilities included managing the weekly snap count, making opposing quarterbacks throw charts and top receivers’ route charts, breaking down opponents games and preparing video cut ups, creating recruiting boards and monitoring prospects, serving as an escort for prospects on game day, planning and working summer camps, handling offensive scout cards and in-practice execution, and charting defensive calls and offensive plays on game day.
A star linebacker at PSJA North, Lopez recorded 67 tackles, including seven for a loss, in six games as a senior in 2020 en route to Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 6A Honorable Mention All-State recognition.
The Pharr native went on to play at Washington State in 2021 and New Mexico Military Institute in 2022 before transferring to Texas State, where he earned his Bachelor of General Studies in 2025.
