Former Pan American tennis standout Rob Hubbard returned to his alma mater where he begins his first season as head men's and women's tennis coach at The University of Texas-Pan American.
    Hubbard was a standout for the Pan American University men's tennis program from 1974-78 where he was the number one-ranked player on the nationally-ranked Broncs' squad. In 1978, Hubbard was part of the Broncs' teams that achieved a top-10 ranking. He was invited to the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships in his final two seasons with the squad.
    Following the 1978 season, Hubbard turned professional and enjoyed three seasons on the ATP Tour where he was ranked in the top-300 in the world. He was a participant at the 1979 and 1980 U.S. Opens.Â
    Hubbard makes his return to the Rio Grande Valley after serving as the head men's tennis coach at Goucher College, a NCAA Division lll institution in Baltimore, MD for the the previous five seasons. During his time with the Gophers program, Hubbard guided the squad to its first NCAA appearance during the 2005 season where his top 40 in the nation. The Gophers were ranked in the top 30 in the Division lll polls, and Hubbard was selected as the ITA Atlantic South Region South Coach of the Year and Capital Athletic Conference Coach of the Year that season.Â
    The newly-named Broncs and Lady Broncs head coach guided the Gophers to a 15-4 mark during the 2003-04 season and finished 14th in the Atlantic South Region rankings, which was the first time in program history that the program was ranked by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association at the end of the season.
    For the previous eight years, Hubbard had been the Owner and Director of Tournament Tough Training Center in Baltimore, MD, where the program trains elite junior tournament players for national, sectional and state competition. In the program, players are mentored through on-court drilling and match play as well as off-court weight training, conditioning, nutrition and mental training. In his time as owner and director, Hubbard has produced more than 25 nationally-ranked junior players.
    Hubbard served as the Co-Head Coach of the USTA Junior Player Development Area Training Center in Baltimore, MD, from 1992-94 after serving as the Director of Tennis at The Elkridge for developing senior, adult and junior events, programs, clinics and lessons for seven years.Â
    With over 25 years of experience, Hubbard has served as the Head Tennis Professional at the Orchard Indoor Tennis Club from 1989-93 as well as Co-Owner of the Tennis Club Institute Tennis Camp for six years prior. He got his start in the coaching profession as the Assistant Tennis Professional at The Wimbledon Racquet Club in Arlington, TX, in 1981.Â
    The former Pan-American standout was a two-time USTA National Champion and was selected to represent the United States at the Italia Cup, which was a 35-and-over Davis Cup competition, during his post-professional playing days. He was also the USPTA Maryland Pro of the Year in 2000 and was the USPTA Mid-Atlantic 35-and-over Player of the Year highlighted in his career.Â
    Hubbard has earned a USTPA (P-1) Certification. He is a certified coach by the USPTA and: and member of the Wilson National Advisory Staff as well as a former member of the Board of Directors of the USTA Player Development Area Tranining Center.Â
