UTRGV Athletics announced hired Jessica Rodriguez as an accountant I on Nov. 6, 2023.

Rodriguez, a UTRGV alum, will assist with travel and operations. Rodriguez will mainly help with credit card reconciliations, purchase orders, quotes, and invoices, and other duties as assigned. Rodriguez graduated with her Bachelor of Business Administration in Management in the fall of 2018.

Rodriguez previously worked as an accountant I for the Hidalgo County Tax Office. In that role, Rodriguez maintained a variety of ledgers and journals by analyzing and balancing accounts and reviewing balance sheets, revenue and expenditure ledgers, and financial statements for unusual fluctuations. Rodriguez also prepared annual and interim financial statements, analyzed and reconciled accounts and grants, and reviewed fiscal records to ensure proper disbursement of funds to different accounts. Rodriguez was promoted to this position in January 2023.

Prior to her role as accountant I, Rodriguez served as an accounting clerk II for five months where, among other things, she was tasked with balancing the non-sufficient funds book and entering information into different journals on QuickBooks including day-to-day operations. Rodriguez was promoted to this role in August of 2022.
 
Rodriguez worked as an accounting clerk I for three months before her promotion. Rodriguez entered bills into QuickBooks, submitted various information to the auditor’s office and Commissioners Court, printed checks, audited bills while entering them, and completed other duties as assigned. Rodriguez was promoted to this position in May 2022.
 
Rodriguez served as a deputy clerk I for seven months before her promotion. Rodriguez worked with taxpayers by answering questions, providing proper documentation for various scenarios, posting payments, and assist with scanning paperwork.
 
Prior to joining the Hidalgo County Tax Office, Rodriguez worked as a financial advisor at Smile Magic McAllen where she confirmed patients’ insurance coverage, explained the options for payment, collected fees from the insurance, and completed other duties as assigned.
 
Rodriguez also has experience in retail after serving as a supervisor, head cashier, and cashier at Boot Jack for four years. Rodriguez also worked as a cashier at Victoria’s Secret and as a box office cashier at Cinemark Hollywood USA.
