James Martinez

UTRGV Athletics hired James Martinez, who had been the Executive Director/Chief Professional Officer of the Boys and Girls Club of McAllen since December 2013, as the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Business Operations on April 4, 2016.

In his new position, Martinez directly oversees the department’s business operations while assisting in the organization, management and control of the department’s budget.

While with the Boys and Girls Club of McAllen, Martinez was responsible for managing strategic planning and operations. Martinez also led a strategic planning process that resulted in the implementation of a three-year strategic plan, developed an effective leadership team, presented financial and operational reports to a diverse group of business, government and civic entities, and was responsible for the development, implementation and management of the organization’s annual budget.

He initially joined the organization in October 2012 as the Chief Financial Officer.

A graduate of legacy institution The University of Texas-Pan American with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance, Martinez started his career as a credit analyst at Lone Star National Bank before becoming the Financial Controller for South Texas Freightliner. Martinez then worked as the Business Manager for the GEO Group in Pecos before returning to the Rio Grande Valley in October 2005 to serve as the Controller and Operations Manager for Jar Group Management. From there, Martinez became the Finance Manager at Aramark Healthcare before serving as the Director of Business and Operations with Migrant Health Promotion from April 2008 through June 2012.
