John Evans, who spent the previous 18 years working at Little Rock, most recently as the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Facilities and Events for current UTRGV Vice President and Director of Athletics Chasse Conque, became the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Operations on Oct. 1, 2019.

Evans’ responsibilities at Little Rock included collaborating with the Little Rock Facilities Management Department to organize energy management strategies, maintenance, repairs, and custodial needs for all athletic facilities. He was also responsible for all game management at home events, including security, parking, ushers, set-up and breakdown. Evans generated over $2,000,000 in non-athletic event revenue through facility rentals and food/beverages sales at the Jack Stephens Center.

Evans also had the opportunity to be part of putting on the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament for women’s basketball in 2012 and men’s basketball in 2008, as well as the Sun Belt Conference Basketball Tournaments from 2010-13.

Evans began his tenure at Little Rock in 2001 as Assistant Sports Information Director before being promoted to Director of the Jack Stephens Center in 2004. He played an integral role collaborating with the WER Architects/Planners during the design phase and construction of the Jack Stephens Center. Evans also secured the first on campus arena liquor license in the state for the Jack Stephens center in 2005.

Prior to Little Rock, Evans spent nine seasons as the Assistant General Manager for the Arkansas Travelers, the AA affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. In this role, Evans hired, trained and supervised staff, oversaw concessions and the souvenir shop, set admission prices, and sold tickets and corporate sponsorships.

A native of Irving, Evans graduated from Texas Tech in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science in Hotel/Restaurant and Institutional Management.
