A layup by Western Illinois University's Quenton Kirby tied the game at 56 with 3:30 left to play against the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs on Saturday afternoon at Thomas and Mack Center. For the Leathernecks it was the spark they needed to seal the deal as they defeated the Broncs 62-60.
Emmanuel Jones concluded the game with another standout performance as he went 10-20 with 22 points, 15 rebounds, one block and one steal. Nathan Hawkins went 6-12 with 13 points and five rebounds and Nick Weiermiller finished the game 2-3 with 12 points with 8-9 FT/FTA. As a team, the Broncs finished the game shooting 43 percent for the day.
Even though the Leathernecks drew first blood at the beginning of the first half, the Broncs would come out scoring and lead the rest of the period by as much as six points. The Broncs shot 12-25, 48 percent as they went into the half leading 32-30. The Leathernecks shot 11-17, 64 percent despite being down at the break.
For the Leathernecks David DuBois went 5-9 with 18 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Ceola Clark went 3-5 with eight points and a perfect 2-2 in three point shots.
It seemed that the Broncs had control of most of the second half despite losing; they even had their largest lead of 10 with 9:48 left in the game. The Broncs shot 39 percent in the second half while the Leathernecks shot 44 percent for the half. The Leathernecks would take control with two minutes left not allowing the Broncs to come back.
Emmanuel Jones was the only Bronc to receive Global Sports Classic All-Tournament.
The Broncs are back on the court on Dec. 5 as they face Drake University in Des Moines, IA as part of the Drake University Tournament.
