With 5:30 left on the clock, Teshay Winfrey tied the score at 45 with a three-point shot, but it wouldn't be enough as the University of Texas-Pan American Lady Broncs fell short to Lafayette on Saturday 57-51 at the Kirby Sports Center.
Brittnay Demery (4-8) finished the game with 14 points and five rebounds. Winfrey (5-13) ended the match with 14 points, seven rebounds and two assists.
The Lady Broncs, who shot 38 percent in the first half trailed for most of the half. Lafayette ended the half shooting 55 percent from the field. Lafayette led by as many as nine points in the first half but the Lady Broncs were able to cut the lead down to three when Epiphany Smith (2-6, 8 points) nailed a three-point jumper with 1:30 in the half.
At the top of the points list for Lafayette was Kristen Zavocki (6-13) with 15 points. LeKeisha Wright shot (4-8) nine points with five rebounds.
The second half would bring some hope for the Lady Broncs who shot 33 percent for the second half and 35 percent for the game but would ultimately fall short as Lafayette, who shot 35 percent for the second half and 43 percent for the entire match, pulled away for the win.
The Lady Broncs are now 3-2 for the season and are back in action on Monday against Rider in Lawrenceville, NJ.
