Broncs Drop Road Decision to UTEP

The University of Texas-Pan American men's basketball program dropped another road game as the UTEP Miners defeated the Broncs 60-42 this Friday (Jan. 2) night at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas to put the Broncs at 4-9 on the season.

Both teams kept things interesting as the Miners and Broncs combined for five ties and six lead changes in the first half.

The Broncs held their first lead with 13:25 on the clock on a dunk by Emmanuel Jones to give UTPA a one-point lead. The score would go back and forth for the next couple minutes but the Broncs would take their largest lead at the 8:58 mark on three-point shot by Nick Weiermiller to give the Broncs a five-point lead over UTEP.

The Miners would regain the lead and have a three-point advantage over the Broncs entering halftime to make the score 26-23. The Broncs would shoot 36 percent (9-25) from the field not far behind from UTEP, who shot 40 percent (10-25) from the field.

The Miners would come out of halftime with momentum as they would take their lead to double-figures with their largest lead of 22 over the Broncs with 1:33 left to play.

At game's end, the Broncs would shoot 29.1 percent (16-55) from the field, 26.7 percent (4-15) from beyond the arc and 42.9 percent (6-14) from the charity stripe.

Nick Weiermiller scored a game-high 16 points in 40 minutes of action along with six rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Emmanuel Jones would be the only other Bronc to score double-figures as he finished the night with 10 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field and six rebounds.

Jason Jensen earned his first start of the season as he finished with two points and a season-high eight rebounds along with four assists.

Leading scorer Stefon Jackson finished the night with 17 points, eight boards and three assists for the Miners.

The Broncs return the UTPA Fieldhouse on Jan. 5 as they face Huston-Tillotson Rams with tip-off slated for 7:00 p.m. CT.
