As the Lady Broncs traveled to New Mexico from yesterday's match against UTEP, the women's program (1-5) received a 7-0 setback from New Mexico State this Saturday (Feb. 21) afternoon at the New Mexico State Tennis Center.
The Lady Broncs did not have that much lucky today on the courts as Stephanie Willerding dropped a 6-3, 6-0 decision to Sophia Marks in the number-one spot of the rotation. Junior Luisa Cantu suffered a 6-4, 6-2 setback to Laura Boguet in the number-two spot of the lineup.
In a third set super tiebreaker, Megan Bedeau fell short to Stephanie Eusebe, 7-6, 4-6, 11-9, in the number-three spot. In another third set super tiebreaker, Malin Andersen fell short to No. 52 ranked Aleska Costa as she lost 7-6, 1-6, 10-8 in the number-four spot.
In the number- five and six spot of the lineup, Sarah Burton was defeated by Bianca Discordia 6-1, 6-0 and Reetta Raty was handed a 6-0, 6-3 setback by Paulina Zuniga.
In doubles' play, Willerding and Raty faced No. 52 ranked Costa and Marks and were defeated 8-2. Eusebe and Isabela Kulaif faced Cantu and Bedeau in the number-two spot of the lineup and handed UTPA an 8-1 loss. In the final spot of the lineup, Natalia Salum Soto and Boguet handed Burton and Andersen an 8-2 setback.
The Lady Broncs wrap up their trip to New Mexico this Sunday (Feb. 22) as they face Northern Arizona at 9:00 a.m. CT at the New Mexico State Tennis Center.
