BRONC TENNIS TRY TO DEFEND TITLE IN GWC CHAMPIONSHIPS THIS WEEKEND

CHAMPIONSHIP BRACKET

CHICAGO, Illinois - The University of Texas-Pan American women's tennis team will try to make it back-to-back Great West Conference Championships this weekend as they compete in the 2011 GWC Championship tournament. The tournament will begin Saturday April 29 and will conclude May 1 in Chicago.

 Texas-Pan American will be the No. 2 seed and will receive a first-round bye. Seattle University, which joined the GWC in women's tennis this season, enters the tournament as the top seed and also will receive a bye into the semifinals.

The championship will open at 8 a.m. (CT) on Saturday with host Chicago State, the No. 5 seed, playing fourth-seeded NJIT. Third-seed North Dakota will play at 11 a.m. against No. 6 seed South Dakota.

Seattle U will play the winner of the Chicago State-NJIT match at 2 p.m. in the first semifinal, followed by the winner of North Dakota and South Dakota against UTPA at 5 p.m.

The tournament will continue on Sunday with a third-place match at 12 noon. The 2011 GWC champion will be crowned after the 3 p.m. title match.
