EL PASO – After using seven first half three-pointer to keep the game close, the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's basketball team was held to just two more in an 83-56 loss to the UTEP Miners on Sunday at the Don Haskins Center.
The Broncs (5-9) trailed 37-33 at halftime, despite outshooting the Miners (12-1), going 13-for-32 (40.6 percent) from the field and 7-of-15 (46.7 percent) from behind the arc while holding the Miners to 13-of-35 (37.1 percent) shooting and 3-of-9 (33.3 percent) from behind the arc. The difference came from the line, where the Miners went 8-for-11 (72.7 percent) while keeping the Broncs from attempting a free throw.
In the second half, the Broncs were held to 2-of-8 (25 percent) shooting from behind the arc while the free throw differential continued as the Miners were 10-for-14 (71.4 percent) and the Broncs went 5-for-8 (62.5 percent) as the Miners outscored the Broncs 46-23.
The Miners are currently receiving votes in both the AP Top 25 and USA Today Coaches Polls. They entered today's game ranked No. 21 in the RealTimeRPI.com rankings. The Broncs were ranked No. 274.

Bianca Torre went 2-for-3 from the field for five points as the Broncs hit four of their first eight shots to keep the game tied at 9-9 in the opening minutes.
Kelli Willingham hit a three-pointer to kick-off a 14-3 run spanning just over five minutes to put the Miners up 25-12, but
KaeLynn Boyd broke the run with a jumper at the 9:12 mark to spark a 12-2 run over the next three minutes that saw the Broncs pull within 27-24 on a Boyd three-pointer.
The Broncs made their first appearance at the free throw line four minutes into the second half, as
Jasmine Gordon went 1-for-2 to bring the Broncs within 41-36. Torre followed that with a three-pointer to make it 43-39, but the Miners scored the next eight points to start a 24-7 run to put the game out of reach.
Ce'Monay Newell led the Broncs with 12 points while hitting four three-pointers.
Joyea Marshall scored 11 points with seven rebounds while Boyd finished with 10 points.
Chrishauna Parker led four Miners in double-figures with a game-high 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Kayla Thornton scored 15 points with a game-high 14 rebounds.
Saidah Zuberi Allen scored 12 points with eight rebounds and a game-high four steals.
Anete Steinberga scored 12 points with eight rebounds.
The Broncs return to action on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. when the open up Great West Conference play at future WAC opponent Utah Valley.
