Women's Tennis Falls at Northwestern State

NATCHITOCHES, Louisiana – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's tennis team lost to the Northwestern State University Lady Demons 7-0 on Sunday at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex.
 
The Lady Demons (4-1) won all six singles matches in straight sets. The Broncs' (1-5) most competitive match came in the #2 position of singles, where Malin Andersen fell to Tatiana Larina 6-4, 6-1. Wanda Beguelin also scored points in both sets, falling 6-1, 6-2 to Andrea Nedorostova in the #4 position.
 
In doubles, the team of Andersen and Suncica Strkic lost in the #1 spot to Olga Bazhanova and Polina Konop 8-3 while the team of Dana Nazarova and Beguelin lost 8-3 to Larina and Nedorostova in the #2 spot.
 
The Broncs play their first home match of the season on Friday at 2:00 p.m. when they face Texas A&M University-Kingsville at the Orville I. Cox Tennis Center.
 
The University of Texas-Pan American Department of Intercollegiate Athletics competes at the NCAA Division I classification. UTPA, formerly known as Pan American College and Pan American University, is a part of the University of Texas System of Schools. The Broncs compete in 14 varsity sports; men's and women's basketball, golf, tennis, track and field, and cross country, along with women's volleyball and men's baseball. In 1963, then known as Pan American College, the Broncs men's basketball program won the NAIA National Championship with a 73-62 victory over Western Carolina. In 2008 UTPA joined the new all-sports division of the Great West Conference.
