BEAUMONT, Texas – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's tennis team (2-8) visits the Lamar University Cardinals (4-7) on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
The Series
This is the 25
th meeting all-time between the Broncs and the Cardinals in a series that dates back to 1989. The Broncs have seven wins in that time, with the most recent one coming in 2002. The Broncs and Cardinals last met in 2009.

The Broncs are coming off of a 7-0 home loss to UMBC on Friday.
The Retrievers swept through doubles with the No. 1 team of
Kim Berghaus and
Carmen Jackman beating
Malin Andersen and
Suncica Strkic 8-0 and the No. 2 team of
Shalini Sahoo and
Josefin Stange-Jonsson defeating
Wanda Beguelin and
Dana Nazarova 8-1 to clinch the point.
In singles, Beguelin played the most competitive match, falling 7-5, 6-3 to Jackman in the No. 3 position. Strkic had to retire down 3-0 to
Isabel Aldunate in the No. 4 spot. The Retrievers took the other four matches in straight sets.
Scouting the Cardinals
The Cardinals have been streaky this season, losing three, winning two, losing two, winning two, and then losing two for a 4-7 record.
The Cardinals have winning records in two singles positions as
Carolina Salas is 8-3 at No. 1 and
Alessandra Pennesi is 6-3 at No. 5 (the Cardinals are 6-5 overall at No. 5).
Overall, the Cardinals are 30-36 (.455) in singles and 10-22 (.312) in doubles.
The Broncs and Cardinals have one opponent in common, Sam Houston State. The Broncs fell to the Bearkats 6-1 while the Cardinals beat them 7-0.
