EDINBURG, Texas – For the second game in a row, the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team staged a late rally against the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux, scoring six runs in the sixth to come from behind to win 6-5 in seven innings of game one of a doubleheader on Saturday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Trailing 1-0 after five innings, the Broncs (18-7, 6-0 GWC) allowed four runs to the Fighting Sioux (2-22, 0-6 GWC) in the top of the sixth to fall behind 5-0. In the bottom of the inning, however,

Will Klausing drew back-to-back walks from
Brett DeGagne (0-4) to set-up a
Chris Torres RBI-single. One out later, Mission-native
Iradier Hernandez hit a grounder to second that wasn't fielded cleanly as Klausing scored.
Mike McCarthy was hit by a pitch, and then
Derek Hagy grounded into an RBI-fielder's choice.
Roger Bernal followed with a hot shot to third that went through the legs of
Kyle Bolander, allowing another run to score and the inning to continue. Mission-native
Angel Ibanez followed with a two-run double to give the Broncs the lead.
Palmview-native
Guadalupe Barrera pitched a perfect seventh for his third save.
That made a winner of Edinburg-native
Austin Casas (1-0), who recorded the final out of the sixth.
Bryan Maxwell started for the Broncs, going five innings and allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits and five walks while striking out five.
Tyler Ruemmele started for the Fighting Sioux, going 4.2 innings, allowing five hits and four walks, but no runs.
The Broncs and Fighting Sioux play game two of this doubleheader, which is scheduled to go the full nine, at 4:20 p.m.
The University of Texas-Pan American Department of Intercollegiate Athletics competes at the NCAA Division I classification. UTPA, formerly known as Pan American College and Pan American University, is a part of the University of Texas System of Schools. The Broncs compete in 14 varsity sports; men's and women's basketball, golf, tennis, track and field, and cross country, along with women's volleyball and men's baseball. In 1963, then known as Pan American College, the Broncs men's basketball program won the NAIA National Championship with a 73-62 victory over Western Carolina. In 2008 UTPA joined the new all-sports division of the Great West Conference.
