OREM, Utah – The second-seeded University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team fell to the sixth-seeded University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux 18-7 during day two of the Great West Conference Tournament on Wednesday at Brent Brown Ballpark on the campus of Utah Valley University.

The game was called after seven innings due to the 10-run rule.

Broncs (30-21) starter Colby McCasland (3-1) retired the first two batters he faced, but after Jeff Campbell (4-7) laced a double to left-center field, a walk and a hit batsman loaded the bases. McCasland then walked Sam Alt, Alex Twenge, and Mark Bearmon to force in three runs.

The Broncs went to the bullpen and brought in Luis Flores, who struck out Riley Beck to leave the bases loaded while retiring the first 10 batters he faced.

In the mean time, the Broncs got a run back against Campbell in the third on an RBI-single by Vincent Mejia.

The Broncs made a pair of errors in the fifth that led to the Fighting Sioux (19-35) scoring four runs (one earned), but the Broncs answered right back on RBI-singles by Mission-natives Angel Ibanez and Iradier Hernandez as well as Will Klausing to make it 7-4.

In the top of the sixth, the Fighting Sioux scored five runs, with the big hit in the inning coming from Campbell, who launched his 12th home run of the season, a three-run shot. Mejia responded with a two-run home run of his own as the Broncs pulled within 12-6.

Mejia finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.

In the seventh, the Fighting Sioux scored six runs, including a two-run double by Campbell, to push the game out of reach.

Campbell finished 4-for-5 with six RBI and four runs scored. He fell a triple short of the cycle. Campbell also pitched a complete game on the mound, allowing seven runs (six earned) on 12 hits and four walks while striking out one.

The Broncs look to keep their Great West Conference Tournament Championship hopes alive when they face fourth-seeded Northern Colorado in an elimination game on Thursday at 12:00 p.m. CT.
