LJ McIntosh hit five three-pointers while scoring a game-high 17 points to lead the Broncs past the University of Texas at San Antonio Roadrunners 70-55 on Thursday at the UTSA Convocation Center.
McIntosh, who had played 17 minutes in parts of four of the Broncs' (3-4) first six games, played a career-high 21 minutes while going 5-for-9 from the field, including 5-for-8 from behind the arc plus 2-for-2 from the line with one rebound and two assists.
He started the second half and scored 11 points over the first 5:14 of the half, starting with a three-pointer to bring the Broncs within 31-29 on their first possession. After a layup by graduate student
Javorn Farrell tied the game, McIntosh hit a pair of free throws to give the Broncs the lead for the first time in 11 and a half minutes of game time at 33-31 with 18:02 remaining. One minute later, with the Broncs up 35-33, McIntosh buried back-to-back threes. Farrell made a layup at the 13:35 mark to cap a 17-2 run that saw the Broncs go up 43-33.
The Broncs led by as many as 17, going up 66-49 with 2:03 left on a tip-in by senior
Justin Leathers.
Three other Broncs reached double-figures in scoring, led by sophomore
Shaquille Hines, who scored 12 points on 6-of-12 shooting with a game-high nine rebounds. Farrell scored 11 points with four rebounds, six assists, one block and one steal. Junior
Shaquille Boga scored 11 points with three rebounds and two assists.
Three Roadrunners (0-4) reached double-figures in scoring, led by
Keon Williams, who scored 16 points with three assists.
Devon Agusi and
Jordan Sims scored 10 points each.
The Broncs are back in action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. when they visit Lamar.
