CORPUS CHRISTI – After combining for just 19 runs in the first three games of the series, the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team and the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders combined for 19 more runs on Sunday as the Broncs fell 12-7 at Chapman Field.
 
Riley Goulding paced the Broncs (1-3) offense by going 3-for-5 with two runs scored. He is now 7-for-13 (.538) this season and 13-for-24 (.542) all-time against the Islanders (3-1). Derek Hagy and Will Klausing each drove in two runs, Jacob Huckabay hit his first career home run and Nikki Rowe alum Jonathan Garza went 1-for-3 with an RBI an a run scored as the starting DH.
 
Brad Porras went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and three runs scored, but it was Eric Weiss' bases-clearing triple, part of a two-hit, five-RBI day, that did the most damage for the Islanders.
 
The Broncs led 4-3 going into the bottom of the fifth. Jordan Lee started the inning by reaching on an error by Hagy in centerfield. Cody Stephens followed by laying down a bunt, but a fielding error by Dillon Engelhart at third base allowed him to reach. A Jonathan Gonzales single scored Lee, and then Broncs starter Matt Daniels (0-1) plunked Porras to load the bases. Weiss followed with his three-run triple to knock out Daniels and give the Islanders the lead for good. Luis Flores entered from the bullpen and plunked Dominic Lopez. Brad Lamberti followed by bunting into a fielder's choice, allowing Weiss to score to cap the five-run inning with the score 8-4 Islanders.
 
That made a winner of Adam Hoelscher (1-0), who allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits while striking out three in five innings.
 
The Broncs got two back in the sixth, as Hagy hit a two-run single to score Goulding and Garza with two outs, but the Islanders scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to push the game out of reach.
 
Roma High School alum Isaac Martinez made his collegiate debut, pitching a scoreless eighth. Juarez-Lincoln High School alum Israel Elizondo also made his debut, allowing one run on two hits and two walks in an inning and two-thirds.
 
The Broncs are back in action on Friday at 6:30 p.m. when they open up a three-game series at Northwestern State.
