Box Score

WICHITA, Kansas – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team allowed 10 runs to the Wichita State University Shockers in the seventh inning to fall 15-8 in game two of a doubleheader on Saturday at Eck Stadium-Home of Tyler Field.

The Broncs (3-9) led 4-2 going into the bottom of the sixth, but the Shockers (9-5) scored three runs to chase Sam Street and take the lead. The Broncs got those runs back and one more in the top of the seventh, as Edinburg High School alum Lee Rios notched his first-career RBI with a single, Shane Ammon hit an RBI-single and Shane Klemcke hit a two-run double to make it 8-5.

The Broncs brought in Luis Flores, who hadn't allowed a hit in five appearances this season, to start the bottom of the seventh, but after a leadoff walk, Johnny Coy and Garrett Bayliff hit back-to-back RBI doubles. Kyle Tokunaga (0-1) came in next and immediately gave up a game-tying single to Erik Harbutz. Tokunaga walked the next two batters to load the bases before getting pulled in favor of Bryan Maxwell. Tanner Dearman drew a five-pitch walk to force-in a run, and then Mikel Mucha reached on an RBI-fielder's choice in which no out was recorded. After a Taylor Doggett single, Casey Gillaspie hit a grand slam to complete the scoring.

That made a winner of Foster Vielock (1-0), who recorded the final two outs of the seventh while allowing a hit and a walk with one strikeout.

Gillaspie finished 3-for-4 with two walks, four RBI and two runs scored. Dearman went 4-for-4 with a walk, three RBI and two runs scored. Doggett went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored, Coy went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored and Harbutz went 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Klemcke led the Broncs by going 3-for-5 with two RBI and one run scored. PSJA High School alum Bryan Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored and Will Klausing went 2-for-5 with a run scored.

The Broncs open up the home portion of their schedule with the first of three games against Lamar in the Al Ogletree Classic on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
