COLLEGE STATION – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team fell to the Texas A&M University Aggies 12-2 in seven innings on Tuesday at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
The game ended by virtue of the 10-run rule when the Aggies (28-24) scored two runs with one out in the bottom of the seventh.
Down 10-0 after five innings, the Broncs' (24-27) first run came on
Alberto Morales' team-leading sixth home run of the season with two outs in the sixth. The only other hit the Broncs had against
Grayson Long (4-1) came from
Will Klausing, who doubled to left center with two outs in the second.
Long pitched six innings, striking out three and walking three.
The Broncs added a run in the seventh without a hit when, with two on and one out,
Shane Klemcke grounded into a fielder's choice and a throwing error allowed Klausing to score from second.
The Aggies scored three of their first four runs against
Matt Daniels (1-6) on sacrifice flies. In the first,
Mikey Reynolds and
Blake Allemand led off the game with a single and a double, respectively, leading to a
Cole Lankford sacrifice fly to make it 1-0.
In the second,
Daniel Mengden led off with a double, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a sacrifice fly by
Krey Bratsen.
With one out in the third, Lankford doubled, Melton hit an RBI-triple and
Troy Stein hit a sacrifice fly. Mengden drew a five-pitch walk.
Mitchell Nau followed with a single. Mengden scored and Nau moved to second on a throwing error by Daniels. Bratsen followed with an RBI-single to knock out Daniels with the score 6-0.
Bryan Maxwell started the fourth by plunking Reynolds, who stole second and third before scoring on an RBI-double by Lankford. After a Melton walk, Stein hit an RBI-single and Mengden followed with a walk to load the bases and knock out Maxwell.
Luis Flores came in, and one of his first pitches was a passed ball that allowed a run to score to make it 9-0.
Reynolds hit his first home run of the season in the fifth to make it 10-0.
The Broncs return to Edinburg Baseball Stadium for their final regular season series of the year when they host first place Utah Valley on Thursday at 7 p.m. Gates open at 6.
