EDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Tuesday that a record 110 student-athletes made the Athletic Director Honor Roll by achieving a GPA of at least 3.0 while serving as a full-time student and competing as an active member of their squad during the fall semester.
UTPA Athletics will recognize these student-athletes at halftime of Thursday's 7 p.m. men's basketball game against Utah Valley at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
Sixteen of those student-athletes earned a perfect GPA of 4.0. As a whole, the department's GPA, encompassing 187 student-athletes, including those who have completed their eligibility but are still on athletic aid while complete their degrees, was 3.05. In total, 64.3 percent of the 171 Broncs student-athletes eligible for the award earned AD Honor Roll honors.
Baseball had the most student-athletes named to the AD Honor Roll, with 29, while men's tennis had the highest percentage, with six of the seven (85.7 percent) student-athletes earning the honor.
Women's tennis had the highest team GPA, at 3.56. Men's tennis had the highest GPA among men's teams at 3.48.
"Our student-athletes are continuing to excel by putting in a lot of hard work both in the classroom and in study hall," UTPA Director of Athletics
Chris King said. "Their grade point averages are higher than that of the rest of the undergraduate student body. We're proud of the job they are doing."
