SAN ANTONIO – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's tennis team will face off against the University of Texas Arlington Mavericks in a neutral site match on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the UTSA Tennis Center, on the campus of the University of Texas San Antonio.
Schedule ChangeThe Broncs were scheduled to face the UTSA Roadrunners over the weekend but their match has now been rescheduled for March 14 at 1 p.m.
Last Time OutThe Broncs fell to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders 1-6 on Sunday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
The Broncs (3-3) got out to the quick start in doubles as the team of
Katia Stavroulaki and
Reegan Greenwood defeated the duo of Celia Rodriguez and Maider Martin 6-1 on court one. The Islanders (3-1) then responded with wins on court two and three to clinch the doubles point.
The Islanders clinched the match with wins on courts three, four and six before the Broncs got on the board as Stavroulaki defeated Jelena Dzinic in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 2 singles spot. The Islanders closed out the match with wins on court one and five.
Scouting the MavericksThe Mavericks enter Saturday's match with a 5-2 record after falling to Texas A&M 2-5 on Thursday.
The Mavericks are 15-4 as a team in doubles. The team of Christine Foote and Augustina Serio lead UTA with a 4-0 record while playing at No. 3 doubles. Angeles de los Rios leads the team with seven doubles victories while not suffering a loss in the dual match season.
Serio paces the Mavericks in singles while posting a 7-0 record. She is 1-0 at the No. 3 spot and 3-0 in the No. 4 and 5 spots. The Mavericks also have three others with five singles victories. Jessica Birowski is 5-2 while playing in the No. 5 and 6 positions, Astrid Gehre is 5-1 playing at the No. 2 position and Elizabeth Thomas is 5-1 at the No. 1 position.
The SeriesThe Broncs are 2-6 all-time against the Mavericks in a series that dates back to 1990. The last time these two teams met was on April 6, 2008 as the Broncs defeated the Mavericks 7-0.
GlobetrottersThe Broncs currently have nine student-athletes on the roster representing six different countries including Colombia, England, France, Greece, Mexico and the United States.
Next UpThe Broncs will continue their road stretch as they face the Texas State Bobcats on February 20 in San Marcos at 9:30 a.m.
