Box ScoreOREM, Utah – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's basketball team fell to the Utah Valley University Wolverines 72-49 on Saturday at the UCCU Center.
Junior
Shaquille Hines led the Broncs (9-19, 3-9 WAC) with 12 points on 6-of-11 shooting to go with four rebounds. Sophomore
Janari Joesaar scored 11 points while hitting a trio of threes. Senior
Shaquille Boga scored 10 points with four rebounds and three assists.
Marcel Davis led the Wolverines (10-16, 4-7 WAC) with 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting.
Mitch Bruneel scored 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting, including 2-of-4 from behind the arc.
Donte Williams scored 12 points with six rebounds and five assists.
Zach Nelson scored 11 points with eight rebounds and six assists.
The Broncs jumped out to a 4-3 lead on baskets by Hines and Boga. Davis hit a three to put the Wolverines on top, but Hines responded with a jumper to tie the game.
The Wolverines went up 11-6 on another three by Davis, but the Broncs came back to reclaim the lead on a layup by freshman
Elijah Watson that made it 17-16 with 8:09 remaining in the first half. After a Davis jumper, Watson hit another layup to put the Broncs on top and then Boga buried a three to make it 22-18.
The Wolverines scored the next 12 points as part of a 15-2 run to go up 33-25 on a
Jaden Jackson three at the end of the half.
Freshman
Dan Kimasa hit a jumper and Joesaar hit a pair of threes at the start of the second half to bring the Broncs within 35-33, but the Wolverines followed with a 20-6 run over the next seven minutes to go up 55-39 on a Bruneel dunk.
The Broncs pulled back within 12 at 55-43 on a Hines jumper, but Bruneel hit a jumper and a three as the Wolverines scored nine-straight points as part of a 17-2 run to go up 27 and push the game out of reach.
The Broncs return home for their final two regular season games, starting Saturday at 7 p.m. against New Mexico State during homecoming at the UTPA Fieldhouse. Doors open at 6. There will be a pregame tailgate party in the parking lot starting at 5.
