OVERLAND PARK, Kansas – The No. 2 seeded University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's tennis team punched their ticket to the championship match of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament after they defeated the No. 3 seeded University of Missouri-Kansas City Kangaroos 4-2 on Saturday at the Overland Park Racquet Club.
 
It is the first conference tournament win for the Broncs since April 21, 2012 when they defeated Bakersfield 4-0 in the Great West Conference Championships. The Broncs will face off against the New Mexico State Aggies on Sunday for the championship.
 
The Broncs (10-11) fell behind early as the Kangaroos (10-12) swept through doubles. Kansas City opened singles with a win on court five but the Broncs responded with four straight wins.
 
Sophomore Mariana Ranzahuer started her match with Raquel Argenal with a 6-2 win in the first set and then followed with a 6-0 win in the second to put the Broncs on the board. Freshman Natacha Minc followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Amelie Amsallem on court six.
 
Sophomore Katia Stavroulaki opened her match with Dimitra Stavrianakou at No. 1 singles with a 6-3 win in the first set and then clinched another point for the Broncs with a 6-2 win in the second. Junior Reegan Greenwod followed with a 6-1 win in the first set against Marina Albert on court three and then clinched the match for UTPA with a 7-6 win in the second set.
 
The match on court two went unfinished after the match was decided.
 
The match was scheduled to be played outdoors at the Plaza Tennis Center before rain forced the match indoor to the Overland Park Racquet Club.
 
The Broncs play for the WAC Championship on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Plaza Tennis Center.
