Box ScoreWACO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros women's tennis team fell to the No. 11 Baylor University Bears 1-4 in their season opener on Thursday at Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.
The Vaqueros (0-1) got on the board in doubles competition after the duo of
Doris Aleksovska and
Dominique Ibarra defeated McKenna Martin and Hadley Young 6-0 at the No. 3 spot but the Bears (3-0) answered with wins on court one and two to take the doubles point.
In singles, the Vaqueros tied the match at one apiece when freshman
Tara Donaho recorded her first career singles victory with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Young at the No. 6 spot. The Bears answered with wins on court two, one and three to close out the match.
The rest of the singles matches went unfinished.
The Vaqueros will be back in action on Friday as they take on the McNeese State Cowgirls at 10 a.m. on Baylor's campus.
