WACO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros women's tennis team fell 1-6 to the McNeese State Cowgirls on Friday in a neutral site match at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center on the campus of Baylor University.
 
Freshman Dominique Ibarra gave the Vaqueros (0-2) their lone point of the match with a win on court four over McNeese State's Hannah Brett. Ibarra opened with a 6-1 win in the first set and then followed that with a 6-4 win in the second.
 
Freshman Tara Donaho took her match against Vivien Borbely to three sets. She opened with a 7-5 win in the first set before falling 3-6 in the second and 3-10 in the tiebreaker.
 
The Cowgirls (1-1) swept through doubles and then opened singles with a wins on courts 5, 3, 1 and 2 to clinch the match.
 
The Vaqueros will open up the home portion of their schedule on Wednesday, January 20 when they host the University of Maryland Baltimore County at 10 a.m. at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
