Women's Tennis Returns to Action Sunday to Host Texas A&M-Kingsville

EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros women's tennis team returns to action on Sunday when they host the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas at 12 p.m. at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
 
Gates open at 11 a.m. Admission is free and fans are encouraged to attend.
 
Last Time Out
The Vaqueros faced the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders last Sunday where they fell 1-6 at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
 
Senior Reegan Greenwood posted the lone point for the Vaqueros (1-3) as she defeated Jelena Dzinic 6-3, 2-6, 12-10.
 
With the singles victory, Greenwood is now tied for seventh place in the program's career singles wins list with 44 career singles wins.
 
Scouting the Javelinas
The Javelinas kick off their dual match spring season against the Vaqueros on Sunday.
 
The Javelinas return eight from last year's squad including Maria Dimitrovska, who led the team with three wins in the fall. Erika Larrea is also one of the returners after leading the team with 13 wins last spring.
 
Paula Saenz also added 13 singles wins last season as she returners for her junior season. Dimitrovska and Mariaxi Herrera added 11 wins last spring.
 
The All-Time Series
The Vaqueros are 8-0 all-time against the Javelinas in a series that dates back to 1988. The Vaqueros and Javelinas met last season on February 1, 2015.
 
The Vaqueros defeated the Javelinas 4-3 at home at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
 
Climbing the Ranks
Senior Reegan Greenwood is currently tied for seventh in program history with 44 career singles wins. She is three away from Silke Buksik (2005-08) for sixth place and just six wins away from Tania Webster (1988-91) for fifth place. Ellen Nelissen (1991-95) tops the all-time list with 67 wins.
