EDINBURG – Sophomore
Antonio Green scored 36 points to lead the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's basketball team past the University of Texas at Tyler 101-75 in an exhibition game on Friday at the UTRGV Fieldhouse.
Green went 10-for-14 from behind the arc and 13-for-20 overall with four rebounds and four assists. Had this been a regular season contest, Green would have become the first player in program history to hit 10 three-pointers. Juniors

Lesley Varner Jr. each scored nine points.
UTRGV forced 28 turnovers, scoring 38 points off those turnovers, while grabbing 13 steals. UTRGV also grabbed 19 offensive rebounds to score 18 second chance points.
Verlo Levels led UT Tyler with 15 points on 5-of-5 shooting.
Skyler Hadden scored 12 points.
The game was tight over the first six and a half minutes, but with UTRGV leading 14-12, UTRGV scored 11-straight points as part of a 27-5 run to take a 49-21 lead. During the seven-minute run, Hoffman and Green each scored nine points while UTRGV forced eight turnovers.
UTRGV built its largest lead of the game at 58-28 when
Mike Nwabuzor hit a deep three at the halftime buzzer.
UT Tyler opened the second half on a 14-3 run to cut the lead to 19, but a Green three-pointer sparked a 9-2 run to put UTRGV up 70-44.
UTRGV regained its 30-point lead with 7:36 remaining when a pair of free throws by junior McAllen-native
Moe McDonald made it 85-55.
UTRGV opens the regular season on Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. at UT Martin.
