SAN MARCOS – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros women's tennis team took it down to the wire against the Texas State Bobcats on Saturday but fell 3-4 on Saturday at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
 
The Vaqueros (9-9, 3-2 WAC) jumped out in front as they took the doubles point from the Bobcats (8-12). The team of Dominique Ibarra and Doris Aleksovska defeated Pippa Carr and Ammaarah Tim 6-0 on court three.
 
After the Bobcats won on court two, UTRGV's team of Reegan Greenwood and Tara Donaho beat Ana Perez and Yadira Rubio 6-3 on court one to clinch the point.
 
In singles, the Bobcats tied the match with a win on court five. Ibarra regained the lead for the Vaqueros with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Katy Collins on court four. Texas State tied it again with a win on court six but Greenwood recorded a 7-5, 7-5 win over Eva Dench on court one to regain the lead once again.
 
The Bobcats won on court two to tie the match as it all came down to court three where Natacha Minc fell behind in the match with a 5-7 loss in the first set. She bounced back with a 6-1 win in the second, which forced a decisive third set where she fell 3-6.
 
The Vaqueros will close out their regular season on Sunday as they travel to Corpus Christi to face the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders at 1 p.m.
