EDINBURG – The UTRGV women's basketball has student-athletes from all over the country and around the world, including seven from Texas, two from Turkey, and one each from Arizona, Australia, Iceland, Illinois, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah and Washington.
 
Of the seven Texans, five are from the Rio Grande Valley, including three from Weslaco.
 
UTRGV head coach Larry Tidwell has had a pipeline to Weslaco, bringing in forward Laura Van Tilburg two years ago and guards Angela Villarreal and Michelle Marquez last year.
 
Van Tilburg and Villarreal played together at Weslaco High School. Marquez played at cross-town rival Weslaco East.
 
Now Van Tilburg and Villarreal are re-united on the court on which they played their last high school playoff game together, and they have become friends with Marquez rather than rivals.
