Women’s Tennis Heads to San Marcos for Season Finale Against Texas State Saturday

SAN MARCOS – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley women's tennis team closes out its regular season on Saturday when they face Texas State University at the Bobcat Tennis Complex at 11 a.m.
 
Last Time Out
UTRGV (4-14, 2-3 WAC) closed out its home portion of their schedule with a 5-2 win over Laredo Community College last week.
 
UTRGV played two players down but that didn't stop them from taking the doubles point as Dominique Esparza and Anastasia Belyaeva didn't drop a game on court one. Dominique Ibarra and Chloe Leclere followed suit with a 6-0 win on court two.
 
In singles, Belyaeva got a 6-0, 6-2 win on court one while Esparza beat Sheerly Bueno 6-0, 6-1 on court two. Ibarra and Leclere didn't drop a game on courts three and four as they won 6-0, 6-0 in their matches.
 
Scouting Texas State
Texas State is 6-10 on the season while going 4-4 at home. They are coming off of a 0-4 loss to UT Arlington on April 9.
 
Prior to their loss to UT Arlington, Texas State won two in a row over Louisiana and Arkansas State in Sun Belt Conference play.
 
Ana Perez leads Texas State with an 11-4 record in singles while playing most of her matches at the No. 3 and 3 spots. No one else on the team has more than six singles victories but have three with six in Pippa Carr, Joy Chia Ming Ming and J. Navajo-Melendez.
 
In doubles, Eva Dench and Alex Jones have posted a 7-5 record to lead the team while playing all but one match at the No. 1 spot. Carr and Perez have teamed up to post a 5-2 record at the No. 2 spot.
 
The All-Time Series
UTRGV is 3-23 against Texas State all-time in a series that dates back to 1986.
 
Both of these teams played each other last season as Texas State came away with the 4-3 victory in San Marcos.
 
The last time UTRGV beat Texas State came back on February 16, 2008 when they picked up the 5-2 victory at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.

UTRGV currently has seven student-athletes on the roster representing six different countries, including the United States of America, France, Macedonia, Mexico, Russia and Spain.
 
Next Up
UTRGV will be back in action in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament, which starts April 28 in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
