LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The third-seeded University of Texas Rio Grande Valley women's tennis team fell 1-4 to second-seeded New Mexico State in the semifinals match of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament at the New Mexico State Tennis Center.
 
New Mexico State (11-12) got out to the early lead as they won on doubles courts three and two to pick up the first point of the match. UTRGV (4-16) led in the doubles match on court one as sophomores Marine Darzyan and Dominique Ibarra led Rimpledeep Kaur and Marie-Pier Thiffault 5-2 before it went unfinished.
 
In singles, New Mexico State got two more points after picking up wins on courts six and one. UTRGV got on the board as junior Dominique Esparza defeated Vanessa Valdez 6-4, 6-3 on court two but New Mexico State clinched the win with a win on court five.
 
UTRGV had two matches go unfinished as Ibarra and Darzyan won a set in their matches. Ibarra fell in the first set 3-6 to Rebecca Keijzerwaard before winning 6-2 in the second. Her match went unfinished as she led 2-1 in the third set.
 
Darzyan opened her match with Marie-Pier Thiffault with a 6-3 win in the first set but fell 4-6 in the second as her match went unfinished before they could start the deciding set.
