EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley women's tennis team is set to close out their home portion of their schedule on Friday when they host Laredo Community College at 1 p.m. at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
Admission is free and fans are encouraged to attend.
Last Time Out
UTRGV (3-14, 2-3 WAC) fell 3-4 to Grand Canyon as they closed out their conference portion of their schedule.
UTRGV played a player short, as they were able to get one doubles victory. The team of
Marine Darzyan and
Dominique Ibarra picked up the 7-6 on court one.
In singles, UTRGV was able to pick up victories on courts one, two and three as
Anastasia Belyaeva,
Dominique Esparza and Ibarra won their respective matches.
But it was Grand Canyon who won the final three courts to pull out the victory.
Scouting Laredo Community College
Laredo Community College is 0-5 on the season and is coming off of a 0-7 loss to Lamar University back on March 24.
They have faced St. Mary's, St. Edward's, Incarnate Word, Southeastern Oklahoma State, Texas A&M-Kingsville and Lamar.
The All-Time Series
UTRGV is 15-2 against Laredo Community College in a series that dates back to 1986.
Both of these teams faced off last season with UTRGV coming away with the 6-1 victory at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
Prior to last season's win, UTRGV had not defeated Laredo Community College on March 11, 2006.
Globetrotters
UTRGV currently has seven student-athletes on the roster representing six different countries, including the United States of America, France, Macedonia, Mexico, Russia and Spain.
Next Up
UTRGV will face Texas State on April 15 at 11 a.m. at the Bobcat Tennis Complex to close out their regular season.
