EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's tennis recorded its first victory of the season after defeating Prairie View A&M University 6-0 on Sunday at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
With a late start due to rain in the morning, doubles matches were not played. Freshman Lasya Patnaik started things off for UTRGV (1-2) as she picked up the 6-1, 6-1 win on court six.
Junior
Doris Aleksovska followed with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Jimena Castellanos on court five that pushed UTRGV's lead to 2-0.
Senior
Dominique Esparza added to the lead with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Stacy Lackey on court one and then it was junior
Dominique Ibarra who clinched the win for UTRGV with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Constanza Aranguiz on court four.
Sophomore Anastasia Belyaeva made it 5-0 with a 6-3, 7-5 win on court three over Shaddae Finley and then junior Marine Darzyan closed things out with a win on court two over Neharika Rama. Darzyan dropped the first set before answering back with 6-2, 6-3 victories in the second and third sets.
UTRGV will be back in action later this evening when they host Texas A&M Kingsville after the conclusion of the men's match against Prairie View A&M.
