FORT WORTH – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's tennis team closes out its weekend when they face off against Texas Tech on Sunday at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
Last Time Out
UTRGV (2-3) fell 1-4 to UT Arlington on Friday.
UTRGV fell behind early as it dropped the doubles point.
Dominique Ibarra tied things up after defeating Nanaka Takeuchi 6-4, 6-1 on court three but UTA won on courts four, five and six to clinch the match.
Scouting TCU
TCU is 2-2 on the season after receiving votes in the ITA rankings at the start of the season.
They opened with wins over Southern Miss and Arkansas State before falling to ranked opponents in No. 23 Ole Miss and No. 22 Arizona State. TCU will face Texas Tech and Texas State before facing UTRGV.
TCU is 10-6 in singles play this season with Aleksandra Zenovka leading the way with a 3-1 record. Donika Bashota, Stevie Kennedy, and Marie Norris have also recorded a pair of victories each.
In doubles, TCU is 5-4 this season with Bashota and Elizabeth Tedford posted a 3-0 record this season.
The All-Time Series
UTRGV is 0-5 all-time against TCU in a series that dates back to 1995.
The last time these two teams faced off was back on January 22, 2011 when TCU picked up the 7-0 victory in Fort Worth.
Globetrotters
UTRGV currently has eight student-athletes on the roster representing seven different countries, including the Macedonia, Mexico, Russia, Spain, India, Germany and Denmark.
Next Up
UTRGV will be back at home on February 11 when it hosts UTSA at the Orville Cox Tennis Center at 1 p.m.
