Men’s Tennis Set to Face Southern Utah on First Day of Spring Break Showdown Thursday

EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's tennis team is set to host the Spring Break Showdown it faces off against Southern Utah at 1 p.m. at McAllen Country Club.
 
Oral Roberts and Prairie View A&M will be the first match of the day starting at 9 a.m.
 
Last Time Out
UTRGV (5-8) snapped its four-match losing streak with a. 4-2 win over Nicholls State.
 
Singles were played first and it was Yehonatan Kaufman getting things started with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Alvaro Barranco on court three.
 
Elliot Johnstone pushed UTRGV's lead to 2-0 with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Eduardo Marino on court four. Dennis Boisseau followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Tobias Lentz that made it 3-0 but Nicholls State answered with wins on courts five and six to cut into UTRGV's lead.
 
Koby Jansen put the match away with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win over Oleksander Podgursky on court one to clinch the win.
 
Scouting Southern Utah
Southern Utah is 10-5 heading in to the weekend after defeating College of Charleston 4-3 at home. Southern Utah is currently riding an eight-match win streak with its last loss coming back on February 17 against Seattle U.
 
Southern Utah has a pair of student-athletes with double digit victories in singles as Agustin Tamagnone leads the way with an 11-3 record while playing mainly at the No. 3 spot. Guy Feigin has a 10-4 record while playing mainly at the No. 4 spot.
 
As a team, Southern Utah is 50-33 in singles play and 27-13 in doubles.
 
Conor Tordoff and Jonathan Morales have teamed up to lead the team with a 9-2 record while playing in both the No. 1 and 2 spots. Feigin and Pablo Guerra have posted an 8-2 record and are on a three-match win streak.
 
Southern Utah has used 11 different doubles teams this season.

This is the first match up between these two teams.

UTRGV currently has nine student-athletes on the roster representing five different countries, including the France (Dennis Boisseau, Clément Sarradin), United States (Jake Davidson, Zane Kohrs, Michael Loyd), Australia (Koby Jansen, Elliot Johnstone), Israel (Yehonatan Kaufman), and Argentina (Mateo Schmit).
 
Next Up
UTRGV will face Oral Roberts on Friday at 1 p.m. in its second match of the UTRGV Spring Break Showdown at McAllen Country Club. The first match of the day on Friday will feature Southern Utah against Prairie View A&M at 9 a.m.
