EDINBURG – UTRGV Athletics and UTRGV Fraternity and Sorority Life partnered up during the 2017-18 men's and women's basketball seasons for the second annual Ultimate Greek Challenge, an attendance-based competition between sororities and fraternities won by Lambda Theta Alpha at UTRGV basketball home games.
 
"I cannot believe we won," Lambda Theta Alpha Mass Communications Senior Merary De La Fuente said. "It is such an honor. We have so much fun at the games that it didn't even feel like we were competing for a title."
 
Lambda Theta Alpha is the second Greek organization to earn a commemorative banner that will hang inside the UTRGV Fieldhouse throughout the 2018-19 basketball seasons after being unveiled at UTRGV Madness in October.
 
"This is our second established year as a sorority at UTRGV," De La Fuente said. "Going to the games was great exposure for our organization and a great way to recruit by showing our school pride.
 
"Great memories and new friends are two awesome things that always come from attending games."  

Lambda Theta Alpha earned 46 points in the challenge and have plans to continue to rally together in school spirit among their fellow Greek Life organizations in 2018-19.

"We will always support our student-athletes!" De La Fuente said. "Going to the games is part of our semester schedule. The games are for all ages, all genders, all students, and all of the community. There are no exceptions, and to me that's what's great about it."
