EDINBURG – Junior Christian Sepulveda hit a walk-off single in the 10^th to send The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley baseball team to a 3-2 victory over the University of Northern Colorado (UNC) in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) home opener on Friday at UTRGV Baseball Stadium.
 
UTRGV (16-10, 2-2 WAC) loaded the bases with nobody out in the 10^thagainst Sam Colehower (1-1) on a single, a walk and a bunt-single. One out later, Sepulveda laced an 0-1 pitched past the drawn-in Tyler Yamaguchi at short to end the game.
 
That made a winner of senior Nikki Rowe alum Ryan Jackson (2-3) who pitched the final two innings, allowing an unearned run in the ninth on an infield-single off his foot.
 
Senior Trevelle Hill struck out a career-high tying eight in a career-high tying eight innings while scattering six hits and two walks. The only blemish came in the second when Yamaguchi came up with a two-out RBI-single.
 
That tied the game at one, as UTRGV originally took the lead on an RBI-double by junior Conrado Diaz that scored senior Anthony Gomez in the first.
 
Gomez lifted a sacrifice fly in the seventh to give UTRGV a 2-1 lead.
 
Diaz finished 2-for-5. Junior Elijah Alexander went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored.
 
Sam Leach led UNC (5-16, 3-1 WAC) offensively by going 3-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored. Jack Pauley finished 2-for-4 with a walk.
 
UTRGV and UNC close out the series with a doubleheader on Saturday at 2 p.m. In honor of the Edinburg Little League Opening Ceremonies set for UTRGV Baseball Stadium from 10 a.m.-to-12 p.m., kids wearing their little league uniforms can receive $3 general admission tickets. UTRGV Athletics will be giving away 200 Vaqueros keychains prior to game two. Gates open at 1.
