BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Freshman Vela alum
Aaron Galvan drove-in two runs as The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley baseball team fell to CSU Bakersfield 7-2 on Saturday at Hardt Field.
Galvan had an RBI-single to give UTRGV (30-19, 15-8 WAC) a 1-0 lead in the second and an RBI-groundout to bring UTRGV within 6-2 in the sixth.
UTRGV managed four hits and three walks against
Darius Vines(5-3), who struck out 10 in six innings. Galvan, senior
Coleman Grubbs, senior
Anthony Gomez and junior
Tyler Torres all had singles. Gomez, Torres and Galvan all walked as well. Gomez scored both of UTRGV's runs.
Grubbs finished 2-for-4 while Galvan drew a second walk to reach base three times.
CSU Bakersfield (21-31, 9-14 WAC) got on the board against senior
Chase Adams (1-3) in the second on a
Damian Henderson RBI-double to tie the game at 1.
Evan Berkey gave CSU Bakersfield the lead with an RBI-single in the third.
CSU Bakersfield added four runs in the fifth on a
Jesse Rowley double, a Henderson two-run double and a
Tyler Jorgensen single.
Then, with the score 6-2 in the sixth, Jorgensen got plunked with the bases loaded to force-in a run.
UTRGV and CSU Bakersfield complete the series on Sunday at 2 p.m.
