BEAUMONT– The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team dropped its road match 2-5 to Lamar University on Saturday at the Thompson Family Tennis Center. 
 
Lamar (2-2) jumped out to the early 1-0 lead after winning at No. 1 and 2 doubles. The Vaqueros (0-5) came away with the win at No. 3 doubles as the duo of Kristyna Mamicova and Alicia Thal defeated Jayci Wong and Laura Sola 7-6.
 
Lamar picked up wins at No. 4, 6, 2 and 5 singles to clinch the win. 
 
Sophomore Katarina Sasaroga got UTRGV on the board with a win over Jasmin Buchta at No. 1 singles. After falling 1-6 in the first set, Sasaroga bounced back with a 7-6 victory in the second before putting the match away with a 12-10 win in the third. 
 
Sophomore Ana Platisa closed out the match with a win at No. 3 singles as she defeated Sanja Jolic. Platisa fell 4-6 in the first set before answering with a 7-5 win in the second. In the third set, Platisa came away with the 10-7 win in the third to pick up the win. 
 
UTRGV will be back in action on February 9 when it hosts Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the Orville Cox Tennis Center at 3 p.m. as part of the South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union.
