CORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team recorded three more victories to close out the Islander Open, hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, on Sunday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
 
Freshman Marjorie Souza finished second in the Flight A singles draw after battling with Lamar's Elena Rodriguez in the final but fell 5-7, 4-6.
 
Senior Alicia Thal closed out the tournament with a win over UTEP's Thassane Abrahim in the back draw of Flight B. Thal opened with a 6-4 win in the first set before falling 1-6 in the second. Thal battled in the tiebreaker and came away with the 10-7 victory to clinch the win. 
 
In doubles, the team of junior Ana Platisa and sophomore Harlingen South alum Valeria Montero partnered to beat Corpus Christi's Victoire Delattre and UTEP's Laura Schmitz 6-4 in the back draw of Flight A. 
 
Sophomore Isabelle Bahr and Kristyna Mamicova beat UTEP's Kathleen Percegona and Lina Sachina 6-0 in the back draw of Flight A.
 
Souza and sophomore Stefanie Wilske finished in second place in the main draw of Flight B after falling 1-6 to Leopoldine Boisseau and Kateryna Rublevska.
