DALLAS – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team is in 14
th place after the first day of the Trinity Forest Invitational, hosted by SMU, on Monday at Trinity Forest Golf Club.
The Vaqueros posted rounds of 295 and 311 for a two-round total of 606. The Vaqueros are six shots behind Rice for 13
th.
Freshman
Lars van der Vight led the way for the Vaqueros on the first day with a two-round total of 145 as he sits tied for 34th. Van der Vight, in his collegiate debut, opened with a first round one-under par 70 before posting second round 75.
Sophomore
Sebastian Lundberg is tied for 61
st with a two-round total of 151 after carding rounds of 75 and 76. Freshman
Juan Luis de Bethencourt Duque is three shots behind Lundberg with a two-round total of 154 and is tied for 67
th with rounds of 75 and 79.
Sophomore
Leonardo Novella is in 72
nd with a two-round total of 156 after opening with a first round 75 before turning in a second round 81. Sophomore
Rhaasrikanesh Kanavathi is in 75
th after the first day with a two-round total of 162 with rounds of 80 and 82.
Host SMU is in the first day lead with a two-round total of 557 after posting rounds of 279 and 273. SMU's Noah Goodwin is in the individual lead with a two-round total of 132 after rounds of 67 and 65.
The Vaqueros will be back on the course on Tuesday for the final round of the Trinity Forest Invitational starting with the first group teeing off at 8 a.m.
